SOUTH BROOKLYN WEEKDAY CHANGES FAQS

WHAT IS THE REASON FOR THIS SERVICE CHANGE?

The decision to implement faster connections during the afternoon commute was informed by observed ridership growth on the South Brooklyn route during the morning commute and rider feedback from a survey administered in May 2023. These changes make the ferry more time-competitive with bus, subway, and other local transit options during all typical commuting hours.

WHY ARE AFTERNOON AND MORNING SERVICES TO AND FROM BAY RIDGE DIFFERENT?

We added a stop at Governors Island during the afternoon commute to give students, workers, and leisure travelers who went to Governors Island from Bay Ridge or Atlantic Ave/Pier 6 a return trip home before Governors Island closes each evening. The afternoon service to and from Bay Ridge still provides a 20-minute travel time savings to riders going to/from Pier 11.

WHAT IF I NOW NEED TO TRANSFER TO GET TO MY FINAL DESTINATION?

Free transfers are available at Pier 11. You may also transfer at Pier 11 to the East River route for service to DUMBO, and to the Rockaway route for service to Sunset Park/BAT.

WILL FASTER CONNECTIONS OPERATE AT OTHER TIMES OF DAY?

At this time, the South Brooklyn Route will only make regular stops from Corlears Hook to Bay Ridge on weekdays from 10am-3:30pm and 8:00pm-close and all day on weekends. For complete schedule information, visit the NYC Ferry app or ferry.nyc.

DO I NEED A SPECIAL TICKET TYPE TO USE THIS SERVICE?

No, riders may use any adult one-way app or paper ticket to ride the South Brooklyn route. For more information on ticketing and fares, visit the NYC Ferry app or ferry.nyc.

HOW LONG WILL THESE CHANGES BE IN EFFECT?

The faster connections along the South Brooklyn route during the weekday commute are intended to be offered on weekday mornings and afternoons year-round. Riders will be notified ahead of time if there are any additional changes to the schedule. For complete schedule information, visit the NYC Ferry app or ferry.nyc.
